Ducati may unveil a new 'basic' Monster motorcycle at the 2017 EICMA in Milan. A spy photo of what is being called a new entry in the Monster range has surfaced and it claims to be a part of Ducati's 2017 motorcycle line-up. It is rumoured that this bike is the Monster 800 and perhaps the most affordable streetfighter from the Bologna-based two-wheeler maker.
The alleged Monster 800 draws design inspiration from the Monster 821. What differentiates the two bikes, according to reports, is the air-cooled engine on the Monster 800 which it borrows from the Scrambler. This air-cooled unit displaces 803cc and has two valves per cylinder. The cylinders have been arranged in L shape -- a trademark Ducati style -- and the engine's peak power and peak torque numbers are 75PS and 68Nm, respectively.
As per reports, the signature headlamp design of Monster bikes is retained on the Monster 800. It also, reportedly, retains the fuel tank and seat design of the Monster bikes. However, the frame seems to be new on the Monster 800. It is also rumoured that the Monster 800 will get its alloy wheels and brakes from the Monster 821, while the swingarm and rear offset monoshock will be taken from the Scrambler.
Ducati, reportedly, will keep ABS as standard on the Monster 800. With all the changes in the rumoured Monster 800, expect it to be priced competitively (below the Kawasaki Z800 and Triumph Speed Triple). Ducati is apparently working on the Monster 800 to provide a more affordable streetfighter to the masses.
